Collecting and using personal information
Our website will not collect personal information about you unless you provide us with that information voluntarily. Similarly any information gathered about you at any home visit by us will only be gathered and recorded with your consent. By ‘personal information’, we mean data that is unique to an individual, such as a name, address, email address, or telephone number.
What information we collect
Our application process requires certain personal information about you and your household to be collected. Examples of personal data we may collect include:
- Name, address and date of birth
- Telephone numbers and email address
- Current residential status, previous address history and number of people in your household
- Lifestyle and other information
We will also ask for information on your monthly income and expenditure and require documentary evidence, including but not limited to:
- Bank statements
- Wage slips
- Benefit letters
We may take and hold copies of these in order to be able to check and audit our own processes and procedures.
How we use the information about you
The information we collect will be used:
- As part of our commitment to responsible lending, to help us decide if you are able to afford the payments under a proposed new agreement with us
- To process your order, manage your account, respond to your questions or deliver a product or service
- To send you material relating to our other products and services that we think may be of interest to you
- As part of any statistical analysis or market research we may undertake
- To assist in any warranty or insurance claim that you may make in the future
We will treat all of your information in strict confidence and we will take all reasonable steps to protect your personal information.
Certain categories of personal data are classed as sensitive and as such we need your explicit consent to process this data. If you reveal details of a health problem that may be relevant, we will record this on your account, but only after receiving your explicit permission. This information will be recorded securely on your account and will allow us to handle your account better and provide you with the best possible support.
Your personal information will not be shared with any other organisation without your consent.
Calls may be recorded to verify content and may be used together with other customer records for regulatory compliance, quality control and staff training, preventing or detecting criminal activity and for complaint resolution.
We would like to send you information about products and services of ours which we think may be of use to you.
We do not pass on your details to any other businesses for marketing purposes.
You have a right to stop us from contacting you with marketing information such as offers or promotions, if you no longer wish to receive these please contact email@example.com.
Disclosing your information
We will not sell, licence, transmit or disclose the information you provide outside of BAYV and its affiliated companies unless:
- Expressly authorised by you
- Necessary to enable BAYV contractors or agents to perform certain functions
- To further fraud protection and reduce the risk of fraud, or to investigate or prevent crime
- Unless legally required or permitted by law
- Required by HMRC or other authorities
In all cases, we will disclose the information consistent with applicable laws and regulations and we will require the recipient to protect the information and use it only for the purpose it was provided.
Credit Reference Agencies
As part of your application, we will search your record at a credit reference agency (‘CRA’). CRAs will record details of any search and place a ‘footprint’ on your credit file, whether or not your application succeeds. This can be seen by other organisations that carry out later searches.
If you enter into an agreement with us, we will also pass details of your agreement and the payments you make under it to the CRA. If you fail to make payments in full and on time, this information will be passed to the CRA. If we send you a default notice, this information will be passed to the CRA.
We and other organisations may use and search records held by CRAs to:
- Verify your identity;
- Help make decisions about credit and credit related services, for you and members of your household;
- Check your credit history;
- Analyse your income and assess your spending habits;
- Trace borrowers and recover debt.
The credit reference agency for whom we obtain and with whom we record information about you is: Call Credit Limited.
They supply us with both public and shared credit and fraud prevention information. You have a right to apply to the CRA for a copy of your file (a fee may be payable). Their address is: Call Credit Limited, 1 Park Lane, Leeds, LS3 1EP
Any information shared with the CRA will remain on your file for 6 years after it is closed, whether the agreement has been settled by you or as a result of you defaulting. Other organisations may see these searches if you apply for credit in future and these may affect your ability to borrow from other lenders
Retention of your personal information
We will generally keep records of any transactions you enter into with us for a minimum of six years from the end of the relationship. This is so that we can respond to any complaints or disputes that arise in that period. Otherwise, we will keep the information where appropriate for legitimate business needs.
We will keep other information about you if it is necessary for us to do so to comply with the law, or where appropriate for legitimate business needs.
Access to your information and correction

We want to make sure your personal information is accurate and up to date. You will be able to update the information that you provide to us either by sending us an email or notifying us in writing. You may ask us to correct or remove any information you think is inaccurate.
